Chickadees

A study published in Science this month says Chickadees have more sophisticated communication than originally thought.

Thanks Hon! It explains why they say "Chickadee dee dee dee" but what I want to know is: Why do they endlessly say: "Dee Doo.... Dee Doo..." to each other like they are having the same boring conversation over and over again? :-)

It's the female response to the male...isn't it? That's what I always thought. Probably they have little expressions to go with the dee doo; a cocking of the head, a turn of the beak and a flick of the feather. You know how we girls are.

:O I'm full of it. That's just what I always thought.

Hi Kate!

Hi C! It's as good an explaination as I've ever thought of, you may be right!

That "Dee Doo" is so monotonous. My husband says it sounds like they are saying something like this:

Bird 1 "I'm over here"

Bird 2 "I'm in this tree"

Bird 1 "what are you doing?"

Bird 2 "Not much. What are you doing?"

Bird 1 "Just hanging out."

Bird 2 "What do you want to do today?"

Bird 1 "I don't care. What do you want to do?"

Bird 2 "I asked you first."

Etc etc etc. LOL.

Chickadees are like the bird version of chipmunks. So small and fat!

We have a theory of what birds are saying.

"Hey!"

"Hey!"

"Hey!"

"Hey!"

"Hey!"

etc.

I think birds gossip more than we do, don't you ever notice the little birds in the corner who are shunned by the rest of the flock?

Poor shunned birdies!

Birds do seem to be gossiping! Esp. the bluejays and crows. They are the nosiest and noisiest of the birds, they seem to comment on everything that happens. :-)
